Sands Films
CINEMA
CLUB
In homage to the programming of Art House Cinemas of a bygone era.
Sands Films
runs a small and informal Cinema
Club with
screenings in our viewing theatre.
The club aims for a better knowledge
of the History of World Cinema. Many of the
titles shown are seldom seen.
The shows are usually at 21.00 every Tuesday evening.
Membership is free, but you need to join by sending your details (names
and e-mail address).

Each week you will receive an e-mail with the confirmation of the next
screening.
There is no "box office", but there is a film can outside the
screening room
in which you are invited to put money.
Please note we now have over 1,500 members!
Sands
Films is fund-raising to purchase the
pre-Victorian warehouse it has occupied since 1975.
This is to protect its place of business and to secure the long
term continuation of the studio activities.
The purchase has now been agreed and the deadline is 2nd April 2012.

In the new year Sands Films Cinema Club will explore Art
House Documentary films.
"Images of the 21st Century's first
decade" is a
selection of 10 feature documentaries that document our times to the
future generations. In years to come people will be informed about the
early 21st century by looking at such films...

NOW!!!
For several years, Sands Films Cinema Club has screened film seasons
arranged by year of production to place each film in its context. The
club’s aim is a better appreciation of film history and to
create
the opportunity for everyone to discover or revisit films which
otherwise would lie dormant, sometimes forgotten.

A new book published by the film club has the same purpose. Written
by Dennis Grunes, it is an
essential guide to the history of world cinema: it provides an
introduction to over a thousand important films arranged
chronologically from the birth of Cinema till now. Each film is
presented and reviewed in a short, sharp entry and each decade is
headed by a longer article with a deeper analysis of outstanding films
of that period.
The comprehensive index makes this book an excellent starting point for
the study of art house film history: it leaves aside many
blockbusters and introduces the reader to many little known
masterpieces.
