Enterprise
Investment Scheme

information
What is an EIS?
EIS stands for Enterprise Investment Scheme. It is run and supervised
by HMRC (ex Inland Revenue). It consists in a series of tax reliefs to
encourage investment in small business (less than 50 employees, less
than £7m worth) for whom raising capital is difficult.
Once HMRC approves the business plan, subscribers who purchase shares
receive a tax credit of 30% of their investment subject to keeping
their investment in the company for at least 3 years. You can look at
this as a guaranteed 30% return over three years, or as a discount over
the cost of the shares.
The minimum investment is £500 and the maximum is
£500,000.
After three years the subscribers can withdraw their investments if
they so wish; but as shareholders they are entitled to annual dividends
if the company makes a profit.
What is Sands Films EIS for?
Sands Films is raising this capital to purchase Grice's Granary, the
grade II listed property it has restored, occupied and looked after
since 1975. The shareholders' money will therefore be safely secured by
the asset, but also tied-up with it. It is meant to be a long term
investment. Nevertheless, in order to make it possible for some
investors to withdraw their funds if they so wish, the company will
create a re-acquisition fund.
How much time is there?
Sands has exchanged and the completion date is now
set to 11th May
2012.
Much has been raised, but the scheme is not complete.
In the time remaining a couple of shareholders have provided the cash
required to complete whilst the fund raising continues.
